Actor Matthew McConaughey took the tribune at the White House on Tuesday to deliver an emotional appeal for" gun responsibility" following the butchery at an abecedarian academy in his birthplace of Uvalde, Texas.
McConaughey, who visited Uvalde and met the families of the victims after the shooting of 19 children and two teachers on May 24, spoke highly of some of the children who died.
He showed a colorful painting by 10-year-old Alithia Ramirez who wanted to attend an art school in Paris one day.
McConaughey also unveiled the blue Converse shoes held by his wife, Camila Alves, which belonged to the other deceased, Maite Rodriguez.
"Green Converse with the heart in the right toe," McConaughey said. “This is a blue Converse on his feet and it is just clear evidence that he could be identified after the shooting.
"How about that?" he said hitting the lectern in the quiet White House room.
"We need to invest in mental health care. We need safer schools," he said. "We need to restore our American valuesand we need responsible gun ownership.
"We need a domain test," he continued. "We have to increase the minimum age of purchase of an AR-15 rifle to 21."
